There are a handful of talented young drivers filtering through the Alpine Academy, including Italian F4 Champion, Gabriel Miní.
Many are questioning the safety of Jack Doohan’s seat already, perhaps unfairly, before he’s driven a race in his full-time seat.
The Aussie of course raced in Abu Dhabi at the end of last season, finishing in 15th place, after Esteban Ocon departed the Alpine team early, to enable him to test the Haas car.
If Doohan’s seat is under scrutiny, it’s also worth considering Pierre Gasly’s seat might be under the same threat, with the richly talented Franco Colapinto waiting in the wings.
I asked Gasly if the conveyor belt of rookies concerned him, or if it motivated him to be faster and better…
“I’m happy with whatever they can bring to the team, whether it’s talent or sponsors, or anything.
“We’ll take anything that can reinforce the team.”
The Frenchman is more than aware of the standard of the Academy drivers who are making their way up through the ranks, and didn’t seemed too concerned.
“I think it’s great to see that many talented drivers to get through, personally.”
Appearing comfortable and relaxed in the media Q&A session, his focus at the present time is on his season ahead.
“I know my business, I know what I want to do, I know what I’ve got to do, so I don’t really change my approach.”
